Investing in People
There are different types of leaders we can be:
1. Takers receive and never give
2. Traders receive and then give
3. Investors give then receive
One of our values here at Highmark is WE LIVE GENEROUSLY
(This applies beyond finances into every area of our lives, especially as it relates to people).
Investors Understand That People are of Great Value.
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. ~2 Corinthians 9:6 [NIV]
Investing in Others At Another Level
1. Think “others first”.
Train yourself as a leader not to go at it alone, but to engage and nurture the potential in others on your team.
2. Focus on investment not return.
It's natural to expect a quick return on an investment in someone on your team, but commit to a long-term investment. This shift transforms your leadership from transactional to transformational.
3. Pick Out a few People with Great Potential.
You can't make equal investments in everyone who serves on your team or is a part of your ministry area. Look for potential and invest there.
4. With Permission, Begin the process.
Often, we invest in people without them realizing or understanding what we're doing. We may put them through leadership "tests" without their knowledge and then feel disappointed when they don't rise to the occasion. Seek their permission and involvement in the process, you’ll be suprised how people respond.
5. Enjoy a Return in Due Season.
Be patient and realize that what you plant in one season won't produce fruit until the next. Trust the process and timing.
